Elder Financial Abuse Meeting Notice

Advocacy Alert 0 Comments

In April 2016, the 109th Tennessee General Assembly passed Senate Joint Resolution 678. SJR 678 directs the Tennessee Commission on Aging and Disability to conduct a study of financial exploitation of vulnerable adults relative to personal financial transactions within banks and other financial organizations. SJR 678 directs the Tennessee Commission on Aging and Disability to work with the Tennessee Credit Union League, the Tennessee Bankers Association, and other appropriate organizations to develop a list of recommended changes to current Tennessee law that would assist financial institutions in protecting consumers from fraudulent and other questionable transactions. As a part of this study the TCAD was also directed to hold community meetings in each grand division of the State, allowing members of the financial community to have the opportunity to voice concerns relative to financial exploitation of vulnerable adults.

The Tennessee Commission on Aging and Disability, the Tennessee Credit Union League, and the Tennessee Bankers Association will host a series of meetings to discuss ideas and recommendations from you regarding changes that may be made to current TN law that would help in protecting our most vulnerable citizens. If you are unable to attend the scheduled meeting in your area, please send a representative from your credit union. This is a problem that many of you experience far too often, please join us and be a part of the solution.

For additional information, and to assist you in developing your recommendations, please see the Elder Financial Exploitation Summary.

The schedule including date and location is listed below. All meetings will start at 10:00 a.m. local time.

Please R.S.V.P. to Matt Coniglio mconiglio@yourleague.org or me, sfranklin@yourleague.org by Tuesday, August 9th.
