(BRISTOL, Tenn. August 27, 2020)  United Southeast Federal Credit Union (USFCU), recently celebrated the 50th work anniversary of USFCU Chief Executive Officer Janice Jones.

“I have the tremendous blessing of working with a great credit union, outstanding people, and remarkable members,” said Jones.  USFCU has been my home, and I have enjoyed getting to know our employees and members, as well as being a part of the community.  I am passionate about helping people, and the credit union has provided me with the perfect platform for that.”

In her five-decade career, Jones has served in different positions throughout the credit union, beginning as a clerk and moving to other areas, including operations, accounting, and human resources.  Before her current role, she served as chief operations officer, and as executive vice president.

She has obtained numerous industry distinctions and honors including a Certified Credit Union Executive (CCUE) designation.  She was recognized by the National Credit Union Institute for outstanding commitment to career-long professional development.  Jones completed the Credit Union National Association’s (CUNA) Financial Counseling School and CUNA’s Financial Management School and the Dale Carnegie Leadership Development program.  In 2015 Jones was inducted into the Tennessee Credit Union Hall of Fame.  She obtained her Bachelor of Science Degree in Management from Tusculum College.

“In today’s fast-paced world, it is easy to get wrapped up in just the business side of running a company,” said Tennessee Credit Union League President and CEO Fred Robinson.  “However, there are those few talented people that can have a balance of seeing both the human side and the business side of being a CEO.  One of those people is Janice Jones.  Janice has been a leader in the credit union for as long as I can remember, leading one of the most active credit union chapters in the state while running one of the largest credit unions in Tennessee.  Janice has served as a board member for Volunteer Corporate Credit Union (VolCorp) and is currently the Vice-Chair of the Tennessee Credit Union League Board.  Janice has also served on countless committees and councils at the state, local and national levels.  Under Janice’s leadership, United Southeast Federal Credit Union has continued to increase access and service to the citizens of their community.  Her longevity in the credit union movement is a testament to her commitment to hard work.  Janice is truly one of Tennessee’s brightest leaders in the credit union industry,” said Robinson.

Janice has also championed numerous philanthropic efforts in Bristol, including initiatives on financial literacy that USFCU has shared within the community and local school systems.  In 2017, then-Speaker of the House for Tennessee, Beth Harwell, appointed her to the Tennessee Financial Literacy Commission, where she continues to serve as a board member.

“Janice Jones and USFCU are tremendous supporters of United Way of Bristol and our community,” said United Way of Bristol TN/VA Executive Director Lisa Cofer.  “Janice is a true blessing to not only the United Way, but also many others.  We are truly grateful for her involvement, dedication, passion, and support for the work that we do to help others.  She serves as a member of this year’s United Way Campaign Cabinet, and we are excited to have her leadership and guidance during this year’s fundraising efforts.”

She is the President-Elect of the Bristol Morning Rotary Club and has served the last several years as a director on the rotary board.  Jones served as the Chair of the Board of Directors for the Bristol TN/VA Chamber of Commerce, has served in several officer positions including President of the Northeast Tennessee Chapter of Credit Unions.

“Janice served as Chair of our Chamber board and also served on the executive committee for several years,” said President and CEO of the Bristol Chamber of Commerce Beth Rhinehart, “Janice has a very calming yet strong leadership style that is very impactful.  When she takes on a responsibility, she fully immerses herself and makes a difference.  Our Chamber was lucky to have her in that role and continues to benefit from her commitment and leadership today.”

“A Servant Leader shares power, puts the needs of the employees first and helps people develop and perform as highly as possible.  I’m thankful to work with a leader who prays and seeks God’s guidance daily.  She is truly a Servant Leader:” said Shelly Brown, USFCU COO.  “I appreciate the work she does for United Southeast Federal Credit Union and the communities served by our credit union.  Congratulations Janice on 50 years of service!”

USFCU’s CFO, Jane Sullivan, states “Janice and I have worked together at United Southeast Federal Credit Union for over 40 years.  During this time, Janice has been a mentor and teacher but most of all she has been a great friend.  Her concern for others and her community involvement has been an inspiration to those around her.  Janice has always encouraged and allowed her staff to give back to the community.  Her commitment to the credit union philosophy, as well as USFCU’s mission and vision statements, has been at the forefront of her career and has helped her achieve this momentous milestone.  This is an awesome accomplishment to celebrate.”

Gary King, USFCU Board Chair has been involved with the Credit Union for more than 25 years in various committee and board roles.

“Janice has a very hands-on approach to leadership,” said King.  “She involves her team and makes plans with members in mind.  The needs of the members are always at the forefront of her mind and she has led with that mentality her entire career.  Her member-first mentality is seen throughout the entire credit union and is part of USFCU.”

Janice and her husband, Wayne, are blessed with two children, Jeremy and Jennifer and husband Kane and granddaughter, Pearl.
