Scenic Community Credit Union Teams Up with Chattanooga Area Food Bank to Support Neighbors in Need

Scenic Community Credit Union is stepping up to support the Chattanooga Area Food Bank during a time when many local families are feeling the weight of rising food costs and recent funding cuts.

Starting May 1, all Scenic Community Credit Union branches will collect non-perishable food items, and we’ve launched a secure online donation link to help the Chattanooga Food Bank continue serving our neighbors across Southeast Tennessee and Northwest Georgia.

The need is real—and growing. In a recent message, Melissa Blevins, president & CEO of the Chattanooga Area Food Bank, shared that significant government food programs have been paused or canceled, threatening to reduce the Food Bank’s overall operations by as much as 20% in the coming year.

“It’s about people, not politics,” said Blevins. “We’re talking about families right here in our community—nearly 200,000 of our neighbors—who are facing food insecurity. The innocence of our children shouldn’t be lost over the rumbling of an empty stomach.”

As a local credit union, Scenic Community Credit Union was built to serve. We live and work in the same communities as our members, and giving back is part of who we are. When we see a need in Chattanooga, we show up.

“Credit unions like ours were founded on the idea of people helping people,” said Jourdan Reyes, director of marketing of Scenic Community Credit Union. “We’re not here for profits—we’re here for people. That’s what allows us to support causes like this and focus on doing what’s best for our members and our hometown.”

This partnership with the Chattanooga Area Food Bank highlights what makes credit unions different. When we’re not taxed, we’re able to pour more back into efforts that strengthen our community—whether it’s helping a member buy their first home or helping make sure a child doesn’t go to bed hungry.

Here’s How You Can Help
