The Tennessee and Mississippi Credit Union Association is excited to partner with EduQuest, led by Kathy Robinson, to expand our training and professional development offerings. This collaboration brings additional learning opportunities designed to strengthen skills and support the evolving needs of credit union professionals. It’s another step in our commitment to delivering valuable, relevant education to better serve our member credit unions.
We recently sat down with Kathy to learn more about the training services.
What made you realize your passion for educating people?
I was working at a credit union and the vault teller was very burned out and bored with her job but no one had ever trained her to do anything else. When she expressed her frustration together we put a plan in place to learn other duties within the credit union. Within a year she had become the Call Center Manager with 3 employees. She is still in that position today. What really hit home was when she told me that I had changed her life by believing in her.
What do you love most about leading training days at credit unions?
Definitely the people. My whole purpose in this world is to share an impactful message that people can use to make their life better.
What’s a common challenge you help teams overcome?
Dealing with difficult people and situations that are just a part of life. Many people avoid or ignore them. If we are equipped with the right strategies and skills, we can turn these situations into positive interactions and lead to opportunities.
What do you hope people walk away with after a training day?
A feeling of encouragement; that no matter what life throws at them they are smart and capable of making it through and coming out better on the other side.
Where do you think training and staff development need more focus?
Definitely leadership and performance management. Many people in management got the job because they were a great worker and employee! But to manage, supervise and lead others is a totally different skill set. They don’t know if they aren’t taught.
