Building One Association to Better Serve You

As we work toward merging the Tennessee Credit Union League and the Mississippi Credit Union Association into one dynamic organization, I want to take a moment to keep you—our valued member credit unions—informed on our progress and the benefits this merger will bring.

Recently, we held a joint meeting of the Tennessee and Mississippi League Boards. It was a productive and encouraging conversation. Everyone came to the table with a shared understanding: this merger is about better serving our member credit unions and preparing for the future of our movement. From day one, I’ve said that a successful merger means there are no losers. I still believe that wholeheartedly. With honest communication and thoughtful collaboration, we can build something stronger together.

Mississippi credit unions have already voted to pursue this opportunity. Tennessee’s vote is scheduled for June 30, when our membership will consider granting the Board the flexibility to proceed. This vote is an important step in building an organization that’s more responsive, efficient and capable of meeting the evolving needs of all our credit unions, large and small.

Why This Merger Matters

Credit unions across the country continue to consolidate in number while growing in assets and members served. Mississippi and Tennessee are home to healthy, thriving credit unions of all sizes. Yet, the needs of these institutions are diverse. Larger credit unions often call us for advocacy, legislative strategy and regulatory guidance. Smaller credit unions, while also benefiting from those efforts, may rely more heavily on our compliance resources, training programs and operational support.

This merger allows us to bring all those services to a new level by combining talent, sharing resources and eliminating duplication. Our goal is to attract and retain top-tier professionals who understand the credit union mission and can serve institutions ranging from a few hundred thousand dollars in assets to multi-billion-dollar operations. Every credit union matters, and they deserve the very best we can offer.

More Strength, More Efficiency

One of the most immediate benefits we expect is improved vendor relationships. By leveraging the combined scale of our two Leagues, we’ll be in a better position to negotiate favorable pricing, evaluate solutions and bring you better contracts. Many credit unions don’t have the time or capacity to thoroughly vet financial services providers. We’ll be able to do more of that work on your behalf.

In the long term, we’ll also gain efficiencies by integrating many of our administrative functions. These changes may not be immediately visible, but over time, they will allow us to reallocate resources, reduce duplication and focus more energy where it belongs: supporting your success.

Looking Ahead

Over the years, the Tennessee League has worked hard to be a strong and trusted partner for our member credit unions. That won’t change. I plan to continue leading the League as president and CEO, and I look forward to the day when we no longer see ourselves as “Mississippi” and “Tennessee,” but simply as One Credit Union Association—serving you with unity, strength and purpose.

Thank you for your continued trust and confidence. I believe this next chapter will be one of the most exciting and rewarding in our League’s long history, and I can’t wait to write it with you.
