The Collections and Bankruptcy Conference is designed to equip debt collection and bankruptcy professionals with valuable insights, tools, and strategies. This event gathers credit union professionals, loan officers, attorneys, debt collectors, bankruptcy specialists, and compliance officers to explore the latest industry trends in depth. You can sign up for the entire conference or choose only the Collections or Bankruptcy track. You decide! 

The conference will feature expert speakers and engaging panel discussions on a variety of key topics, including:

    • Latest Trends in Collections: Learn about modern strategies for effective debt recovery, including legal considerations, customer-centric approaches, and leveraging technology for efficiency.

    • Bankruptcy Law Updates: Hear from a legal expert on recent developments in bankruptcy laws and new regulations and how they impact creditors and financial institutions.

    • Regulatory Compliance: Stay current with the latest regulatory requirements, including consumer protection laws, fair debt collection practices, and guidance from agencies like the CFPB (Consumer Financial Protection Bureau).

    • Handling Delinquencies: Practical sessions on managing delinquencies and working with members to create payment solutions.

    • Bankruptcy Case Management: Sessions on streamlining the bankruptcy process, from filing to discharge, and maximizing recoveries in both Chapter 7 and Chapter 13 bankruptcies.

    • Credit Union-Specific Challenges: Focused sessions on the unique aspects of collections and bankruptcy in the credit union environment, including working with members facing financial hardship.

    • Networking Opportunities: Connect with your credit union peers  to exchange ideas and best practices.

  • How to create, perfect, and enforce security interests in titled and untitled collateral, including all needed forms and methods.
  • How to avoid traps of inadvertent default waivers, the Rapson Rule, and automatic statutory penalties for notice failures.
  • Suggested methods to reliably communicate with reluctant debtors – at least once.
  • Whether, when, and how to preserve and enforce liens on deposits against debts, and when NOT to.
  • The advantages of loan modifications over loan re-writes or refinancing
  • How debtors use the UCC to cure their defaults using the CU’s money instead of their own
  • How to avoid the pitfalls of the Military Lending Act & Servicemembers’ Civil Relief Act.

Frank Drake

About the Speaker

Frank Drake concentrates his practice in the areas of creditors’ rights, creditors’ bankruptcy, and commercial litigation. Frank has worked with credit unions, banking and financial institutions, consumer and commercial lenders, and student loan agencies to enforce contracts, minimize losses, and fight fraud. As federal regulatory compliance has become increasingly complex, he assists lenders with difficult compliance issues. He has more than 30 years of legal experience. He was first admitted to practice law in Kentucky in 1978. Since then, he has been admitted to practice in North Carolina and West Virginia. In Kentucky, he was active in drafting statutory law on judgments and garnishments, the design and use of that state’s judgment execution forms, and policies and procedures concerning foreign judgment registration and land records docketing. Frank has taught classes on bankruptcy and commercial law for the Indiana Bankers Association at Butler University, the National Association of State-Chartered Credit Union Supervisors, and various states’ Credit Union Leagues. He also served as a speaker for several student loan lending agencies, credit unions, and state and local bar associations. Additionally, he has held compliance seminars for his clients to update them on the ever-changing creditors laws. Frank is listed as a Best Lawyer in the 22nd Edition of The Best Lawyers in America©, an established benchmark of legal excellence.

If You Need to Cancel

Cancellations received more than 14 days before the event are eligible for a refund, minus a $100 administrative fee. This fee is waived for events priced at $100 or less.

Cancellations received 14 days or less before the event are not eligible for a refund, as catering and venue commitments have already been finalized.

Refunds are not available for no-shows. However, you’re welcome to send a colleague in your place at no additional cost—just let us know ahead of time.

In the rare event we must cancel due to low enrollment or unforeseen circumstances, you’ll receive a full refund. If we need to postpone, you may choose either a full refund or transfer your registration to the rescheduled date.
