Mid-April Advocacy Update—Credit Union Board Modernization Bill Advances

Tennessee

  • Lawmakers in Nashville have approved the state budget for the 2026-27 fiscal year, meaning we are now likely within a week of adjournment for the 114th General Assembly.
  • All of our credit union focused legislation has concluded for the year.
  • We’ll have a full recap of the session later once we have reached the end.

Mississippi

  • The Mississippi legislative session formally adjourned at midnight Wednesday night. The main purpose for keeping the session open for an additional 10 days was to consider a few of the items that Governor Reeves vetoed. Several of the governor’s vetoes were brought to the floor yesterday, but none of the items he vetoed were overridden.

Federal

  • Congress reached an agreement that indicates lawmakers are working on a ‘skinny’ reconciliation 2.0 bill to address only immigration enforcement and border patrol funding. Strategic discussions are underway to ensure we enter the conversation at the right moment.
  • Credit Union Board Modernization Bill has begun under hotline procedure on the Democrat side. We are hoping for it to move quickly and get across the finish line soon.
  • Secretary Bessent will testify this week before the Senate Banking FSGG subcommittee.
  • We continue to monitor congressional efforts on market structure, deposit insurance updates, and cryptocurrencies.
