ORNL Federal Credit Union—Celebrating Dolly’s Legacy of Giving

ORNL Federal Credit Union has long embraced Dolly Parton’s joyful spirit and commitment to improving the lives of children and families throughout East Tennessee. Through ongoing support of the Dolly Parton Children’s Hospital, formerly East Tennessee Children’s Hospital, and Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library, we are proud to help continue her legacy of compassion, generosity, and service.

ORNL FCU has proudly supported the children’s hospital for many years through donations made in recognition of International Credit Union Day, while supporting Credit Unions for Kids and Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals. This includes a $75,000 contribution celebrating the Credit Union’s 75th anniversary in 2023 and our most recent donation of $12,000 in 2025.

Another important part of this commitment is Fantasy of Trees, an annual holiday event that raises funds for the hospital and the vital care it provides to children throughout the region. The festive experience brings the community together through beautifully decorated Christmas trees, holiday displays, entertainment, activities, and seasonal shopping. ORNL FCU employees help bring the event to life by volunteering their time and welcoming families.

Dolly’s signature style and generous heart inspired ORNL FCU’s participation in the 2023 Covenant Health Knoxville Marathon. To inspire and incentivize participation, employees filmed a “9 to 5” video dressed as Dolly, created themed prizes and race shirts, and put on their “Dolly best” for a look-alike competition. For every employee who registered to race, ORNL FCU donated $75 to Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library (in conjunction with our 75th anniversary). Strong employee participation generated more than $10,000 to help place books into the hands of local children.

The celebration extends to experiences for employees and their families. ORNL FCU has hosted family gatherings at Dollywood and offers employees discounted tickets to Dollywood and Dollywood’s Splash Country, providing more opportunities to enjoy two of the region’s most beloved family destinations. Lastly, we encouraged our staff to wear pink this Friday, August 28, in honor of Dolly’s legacy.

From supporting children’s healthcare and literacy to creating memorable experiences for employees and their families, ORNL FCU is honored to champion causes and traditions that reflect Dolly’s heart for East Tennessee and its people.
