Natural disasters strike suddenly. On Wednesday night, at least 14 tornadoes tore across South Central Mississippi, leaving a path of destruction. Thankfully, all credit unions in the impacted area and their teams are safe.
In recognition of this week being Hurricane Preparedness Week and May being Wildfire Awareness Month, we want to share emergency preparedness tips for your credit union.
- Review your credit union’s disaster recovery plan and crisis communications plan.
- Focus on business continuity. Establish a plan for remote work.
- Focus on your disaster supply kit and emergency preparedness.
- Focus on your credit union’s disaster recovery and business resumption contingency plans and NCUA’s Catastrophic Act Preparedness Guidelines. Remember, if your federally chartered credit union has an interruption in vital member services projected to last more than two consecutive business days, you need to notify the NCUA regional director within five business days (Part 748.1 Filing of reports).
