Scenic Community Credit Union is proud to announce the successful completion of its recent community food drive for the Chattanooga Area Food Bank. Through generous support from members, staff and the credit union itself, the campaign made a meaningful impact on local hunger relief efforts.
During the drive, all Scenic Community Credit Union branches served as donation drop-off points for non-perishable food items. Members also contributed $140 in monetary donations, demonstrating the power of small gifts adding up to create change. In addition, several staff members volunteered their time at the Food Bank’s warehouse, stocking school lunch packs and assisting community members shopping at the Foxwood distribution site.
To further support the Food Bank’s mission, Scenic Community Credit Union made a direct donation of $5,000 to help offset the growing need for services in the face of recent funding cuts and rising food costs.
“My volunteer experience with the Chattanooga Area Food Bank was incredibly rewarding,” said Tami Powroznik, vice president, compliance officer. “The hands-on service provided a tangible sense of the impact our efforts can have on our community. In addition to serving others, this experience also allowed me to build strong personal connections with coworkers. Working together toward a common goal fostered a deep sense of camaraderie, teamwork, and shared purpose, which made the experience even more fulfilling on both a personal and professional level.”
Efforts like this highlight the importance of the credit union difference. As a not-for-profit financial institution, Scenic Community Credit Union reinvests directly into member services and community outreach—rather than shareholder profits. That difference is made possible through the credit union’s tax-exempt status, which allows resources to be focused on initiatives that strengthen the community.
“What started as a simple volunteer day turned into a powerful experience of teamwork, purpose, and perspective,” said Marlo Drake, accountant. “The Chattanooga Area Food Bank’s well-organized efforts made it easy to contribute—and hard not to be moved. We showed up to serve, but left with deeper connections, greater appreciation and a stronger commitment to their mission. We thought we were just volunteering. We left as advocates.”
