Bank Secrecy Act for Directors

Jamin Carlisle, Compliance Specialist with AUX Team

BSA is one of the highest risk areas in most financial institutions; effective and efficient BSA training for the Board of directors is extremely important.  Directors need a BSA training program that helps them to understand how to manage their organization’s Bank Secrecy Act and anti-money laundering program. BSA training for the board is presented in a way that an outside director without prior credit union experience can easily understand BSA/AML risks, be able to make informed decisions, and ultimately have adequate oversight of the BSA function of the organization.

Best Practices of a Modern Credit Union Board

Kevin Smith, TEAM ResourcesX Team

Of course, every board is different. We’re talking about humans, after all. But there are reliable & researched “rules of thumb” that raise the performance of boards. Hear about practices that are tried and proven across various board sizes and types. Make sure you’re working smart and efficiently for your members and the credit union.

Economic & Financial Market Outlook: A New World in the Post-Crisis Era

Scott Knapp, Chief Market Strategist CUNA Mutual Group

The 2008 financial crisis led to major changes in economic institutions and policies around the world. The COVID pandemic amplified those changes and likely made many of them permanent. “Fiscatary policy,” or close coordination between governments and central banks, has never been a greater influence in determining the allocation of resources. New economic theories, including Modern Monetary Theory, are also causing some policymakers to rethink traditional foundations of capitalism. Change is in the air as indicated by the sudden return of an uninvited guest: Inflation!

During this session, current conditions and structural changes to the global economy will be discussed at length. Implications for financial markets and investors in all categories will also be presented during this entertaining and highly informative session.

Courageous Leadership - Living a Life of Influence

Dan Meers, Mascot for the Kansas City Chiefs

On November 23, 2013, Dan Meers came within inches of losing his life while practicing a bungee jump and zip line stunt at Arrowhead Stadium… home of the Kansas City Chiefs. What Dan anticipated being the thrill of a lifetime ended up being the spill of a lifetime. The stunt went terribly wrong, and Dan plummeted 75 feet before crashing into the stadium seats. Miraculously Dan survived. He spent 9 days in the hospital and got some really big scars. Dan smiles when he says, “Scars are just Tattoos that come with a Cool Story”. During this powerful presentation, Dan shares his incredible story and the important lessons that he learned during his long road to recovery about leadership and about life.

On one side, you must provide strong internal audit functions so the CU can take on risk in a safe and sound manner. On the other, your role should serve as an asset and not a hinderance. In this unique session, Supervisory Committee members will learn how to:

  • Strike a balance as auditor and as an asset to the CU.
  • Communicate effectively with management, Board members, external auditors and regulators.
