Tenured Credit Union Leader Retires from Knoxville Area Chapter Board

The Knoxville Area Chapter of Credit Unions recently hosted cybersecurity training with speaker Gilbert Young of ORNL Federal Credit Union in honor of October being Cybersecurity Awareness Month. The training focused on artificial intelligence (AI), NCUA and the credit union: opportunities for use, restrictions, third-party due diligence, risks and governance.

A Decade of Volunteer Leadership

This was also a special meeting for the chapter leadership. The chapter president, Beth Scruggs, retired from her position and was presented with an award to celebrate her tenure and dedication to the Knoxville Area Chapter of Credit Unions. Beth has attended nearly every chapter meeting for the last ten years and has served in every role on the chapter board.

Beth joined the Knoxville Area Chapter of Credit Unions Board as a volunteer leader in June 2016. Since then, she has served as treasurer, 3rd vice president, 1st vice president and president.

“Getting to build relationships with other credit union employees over the years on the board and at the meetings,” said Beth. “Also building and having relationships with vendors. Getting to hear all the different speakers over the years and all the information they have shared. The direct connection and relationship with the Tennessee Credit Union League. I feel the Chapter is essential for building relationships. It has brought so much joy to my life to keep this going for all these years.”

Beth is stepping away from board service to start a family. She and her husband, Seth, are expecting a baby boy.

John Kruse will serve as the interim chapter president until chapter board elections occur in the spring. There are two positions currently up for nominations on the chapter board. If you or someone you know is interested in strengthening your professional network, building leadership skills and serving on the chapter board, please reach out to the Knoxville Chapter secretary, Kara Hollway.
