Hiwassee River Credit Union Breaks Ground on First Stand-Alone Branch

Hiwassee River Credit Union marked an important milestone last Wednesday, January 21, 2026, with the groundbreaking of its first stand-alone branch, signaling a new era of service and accessibility for its members.

Since 1969, the credit union has operated inside the Olin Corporation plant, serving employees of Olin, Solenis, and their families for more than five decades. The new facility, located at 8871 Hiwassee Street in Charleston, reflects Hiwassee River Credit Union’s continued growth and long-term commitment to both its current membership and future members in the community.

Construction on the new branch is expected to be completed in Fall 2026.

“This project represents a significant step forward for our credit union,” said Trendel Hodges, president of the Board of Directors. “For the first time, we will have a space that is entirely our own—one that reflects our values, supports future growth, and enhances how we serve our members every day.”

The new branch will feature a design that aesthetically represents the natural beauty of the surrounding area while incorporating modern conveniences, including drive-through access, to better serve members with busy schedules.

“This new building allows us to better serve our members by providing a space that is fully designed around their needs,” said Stephanie Young, chief executive officer. “It gives us the ability to offer greater convenience, improved accessibility and a welcoming environment where members can take care of their financial needs efficiently and comfortably.”

“We are incredibly excited about what this new branch represents for our members and our community,” Young added. “This building is not just an investment in infrastructure, but in relationships, service, and the future of Hiwassee River Credit Union.”
