Tennessee Valley Federal Credit Union (TVFCU) announces the retirement of John Pogue from the institution’s board of directors. Pogue served as a dedicated member for 49 years.
Pogue began volunteering with the credit union in 1977 as a member of the Credit Committee, moved to the
Supervisory Committee in 1978 and became a board member in 1980. At the time, the institution—then
known as the Chattanooga TVA Employees Credit Union—operated from a small headquarters on Chestnut
Street with 13 employees and $130 million in assets. Member meetings were held at the Tivoli Theatre, where Pogue became the last board member elected in the historic venue.
During his tenure, TVFCU grew into the largest credit union in Southeast Tennessee and Northwest Georgia,
now serving more than 174,000 members with over 550 employees and more than $3 billion in assets.
Outside of TVFCU, Pogue worked for the Tennessee Valley Authority for more than 30 years as supervisor of
Budget and Accounting for the Division of Medical Services and has long been committed to volunteer
service.
“It’s been a pleasure and honor being a volunteer over the past 49 years at the Tennessee Valley Federal Credit Union,” says Pogue. “As the credit union celebrates its 90th anniversary, it’s hard to believe I was there for 49 of those years and able to be a part of its growth and success.”
Pogue will continue to share his extensive knowledge and experience in the role of Board Emeritus. Rebecca
Hunter has been appointed to fulfill the remainder of his term.
